Swine flu is a contagious respiratory disease which spreads from person to person at a notoriously rapid rate. In the year 2009 swine flu occurred as a pandemic and affected most parts of the world. A number of people were affected with this disease and many patients died in the course. The number of swine flu states affected in USA was approximately 46 in the year 2009. Survey shows that the number of confirmed cases in swine flu states affected reached up to 103,840 in USA out of which 2827 patients died. During the late March 2009 the preliminary cases of swine flu were reported in California. By the mid of April the virus spread into Texas, New York, Washington, Indian, Virginia, Michigan, Illinois and other states of US.
The highest numbers of confirmed swine flu cases were found in Illinois, almost 487 individuals were confirmed as victims of H1N1 swine flu virus. The effect of swine flu in the United States was so bad that it was declared as a national emergency by President Barack Obama in October 2009. During this the efforts of Californian government was commendable, The Californian government had done adequate preparations to cope with the swine flu virus if the epidemic grows wider. Three separate teams of 40 doctors and nurses and three mobile hospitals having 200 beds were set up to help anyone suffering from swine flu or needing other types of medical help. Along with California other states of America also became concerned about the disease and tried to help their citizens with all the necessary medical tips, treatments and tools. As the swine flu was spreading at fast rate in various states of America, the health departments suggested people to take formal precautions which are very efficient in protecting individuals from the dangerous effects of swine flu. Anti viral medicines were distributed among the people so that they can develop immunity against swine flu virus.
Outcome of swine flu states effected
In addition the center for disease control and prevention was keeping tab of swine flu at different places, it kept record of number of patients being infected from this flu virus. According to the report of CDC the number of Americans infected with swine flu virus in November 2009 was 22 million out of which 4000 died in December 2009 this number reached up to 50 million and the number of deaths went up to 10000. With increase in medical facilities the health departments of different states of America tried to cure as many patients as they can, they also attempted to save others from being infected. Till the end of December 2009 there was marked decrease of 59% in the disease and only three states were kept in the category of widespread swine flu states effected.
With the continuous reduction in swine flu cases it is being estimated that till the end of January 2010 the disease will completely disappear in the United States and people will live a healthy and happy life here. The center for disease control and prevention is also trying to stop the reoccurrence of 2009 swine flu situation in the whole world.
